On February 24th, the 15300 ton module roll on/roll off ship project undertaken by Zhonghai Guangying was successfully completed. This is the first time that China has used SPMT to complete the roll on/roll off operation of 15000 ton modules, and it is also the roll on/roll off operation with the largest number of SPMT axes and the highest technical challenge for a single module in China. The roll on/roll off module of this project has a length of 120.42m, a width of 77.72m, a height of 36m, and a total weight of 15300t. Our company uses a total of 500 axis SPMT and 20 PPUs to complete roll on/roll off operations. At the beginning of settling in Jibao Shipyard and designing the module, the Zhonghai Guangying design team was fully involved in the FEED design process, providing professional advice in the logistics field to the owner's design team from a technical and operational perspective. The designers, through argumentation, consulting expert opinions, and drawing on existing international cases, collaborated with the owner to finalize the overall construction module+SPMT roll on/roll off ship scheme. The conservative plan of replacing earlier segmented construction and later assembly has saved valuable time for the owner. How to mobilize 500 axis SPMT and 20 PPUs in a short period of time has become a difficult problem for the Zhonghai Guangying team. At the beginning of determining the construction plan, the company's management took precautions by arranging a dedicated person to summarize the distribution of SPMT resources in China and neighboring countries, and simultaneously combine operations and technical demonstrations. After multiple discussions, a resource integration plan was formulated with a focus on "domestic+imported brand intermodal transportation" and "single brand" as a supplement. The plan was laid out six months in advance to lock in the axis resources for the smooth implementation of this project on schedule.
The project received attention and importance from the group leaders at the beginning of its establishment, and the group's equipment resources were uniformly allocated in advance to provide support; Industry peers have provided strong support, and multiple companies have signed resource guarantee agreements with our company. In addition, our company has partnered with international industry giant Roll Group to pre allocate a batch of imported brand SPMT for the project to enter the domestic market. At the same time, we have also locked in a considerable number of axes in Southeast Asia as backup response resources, providing double insurance for the project to be executed as scheduled. The structural form of the transportation module itself is a double shell body structure connection, with a small effective support area at the bottom. After deducting the bottom area occupied by the sea freight support pier, the space left for SPMT lifting is limited, which limits the number of SPMT axes to be put into operation. This project adopts the roll on boarding method, with limited deck width, which further limits the loading area of SPMT. Considering the joint use of two brands of SPMT, it presents significant challenges for the SPMT vehicle allocation scheme and hydraulic grouping in this project.
On the one hand, the design team cooperates with the owner to solve the challenges brought by various limiting factors, and on the other hand, actively learns from similar past cases to avoid risk factors. Synchronize, maintain good communication between the design team and the operation team, repeatedly demonstrate the practicality of the design plan, and maximize the performance of each brand's equipment within the scope of safety permits, ensuring the safety, efficiency, and economy of executing the plan. In this project, the Zhonghai Guangying team planned the layout in advance, worked steadily, actively overcame difficulties, and relied on the professional philosophy of service development and solid technical operation strength to ensure the smooth implementation of this project. This project is the single module transportation project with the highest number of SPMT axes used in China, and has also set a new record for the weight of SPMT roll on modules. Through this, Zhonghai Guangying has accumulated valuable experience and demonstrated excellent comprehensive strength, laying a solid foundation for the company's future in-depth participation in high-end offshore projects.
